With a large variety of wave types on sandy or rocky bottomed beaches, there are over 30 surf-spots along this small 20 Km strip. With coastlines facing north and south, you can almost always find a beach with an offshore wind – and offshore winds mean perfect waves, and perfect waves mean hours of pure fun.

We were the first surf camp to open here, so we got the best location. Our Surf Centre is right on the beach at Cantinho da Baia. The difference with us is that we are based here. When you are surfed out, just chill with a beer and watch the action.

Just five minutes to the South is Supertubos and just two minutes walking to the North is the amazing left hand reef break of Lagido.

The Peniche region is known for great consistency in swell. There are not many occasions when you will be unable to get good enough waves. However, and as it is the case for the rest of the Portuguese coast, surfing conditions improve considerably during autumn, winter, and spring. Depending on the condition of the ocean on a particular day, there are potentially about 20 surf spots available within a 15-km radius and, therefore, it is almost always possible to find a wave that is adequate for your particular level of surfing skill.

Accommodations

Our accommodations are only 3 or 4 minutes walk from the beach. This means you can be in the water and surfing within 10 minutes of waking up. No complications, no waiting for mini-buses, no holiday time wasted. The surf camp has a laid-back vibe and accommodation to suit all tastes and budgets. We welcome everyone from singles to families, experts to novices.

At night, our beach bar – named after the camp’s founder: Bruno’s Bar -- is one of the most outstanding beach bars in Portugal, and its mythical evenings have for more than 10 years meant guaranteed good times.

The region has awarded golf courses, and Peniche is famous for its fish and shellfish. The area is also home to a number of excellent wineries, and, in Óbidos, to one of the most well-preserved places of historical heritage in all Portugal. These are great options to complement your surfing holiday in Peniche.

Hostel Accommodation Baleal Peniche

The Hostel accommodation is our most economical option. This kind of shared lodging, where you share the house with the other guests. It’s ideal for getting to know people from the world over, in a youthful and relaxed ambiance. The Surf House Hostel and the Village House Hostel are our two houses. They’re both located just 250m and 100m from the beach, our Surf base and various surf spots in Baleal, Peniche.

Hostel accommodation includes: accommodation in a shared room, bed linen and blankets included, equipped kitchen for self catering, free WiFi, cleaning of the accommodation every two days, free pass for the weekend parties at Bruno's Bar...

Village House Hostel

This facility is available year round and is our optional Cool lodging. It is located 200m away from the beach and features four bedrooms. This semi-detached villa house has three bathrooms with shower, a large lounge with living room with TV and DVD, a separate meal area, a fully equipped kitchen, and private terrace, free WiFi.

Surf House Hostel

Located 100 metres away from the beach and our Surf Centre. It's a surfers friendly hostel within walking distance to several surf spots in Baleal and Peniche area.

It caters for young, easy-going people who prize meeting other people and socialising. The lodge has 4 rooms, featuring bunks sleeping 2, 3, 4 and 5 guests on single beds on the loft room. It has 3 shower and toilet facilities and a common kitchen and dining room. In addition, it features a large lounge equipped with TV and DVD leading to a pleasant outdoor patio overlooking the sea, featuring large running tables and barbecue facilities. All rooms have WiFi available.

Our Surf Hostel has a foyer and reception where guests can get all sorts of useful information and free internet access. There is a supermarket right next to it and various restaurants and surf shops close by.

Apartments and Rooms in Peniche and Baleal

The Individual accommodation deal is our most comfortable option. It’s ideal for couples, families, and groups of friends that appreciate comfort and privacy. In these apartments you get a room all to yourself and only share the house. The options available are the Green House Apartment, the Cocktail House Apartment and the Wooden House Apartment.

Green Villa

This semi dettached villa is available year round, and is ideal for families, couples or guests wanting accommodation of higher quality.

The Green House Villa is located just 300m from the beach and has 4 bedrooms, 3 toilets with shower, a large living room with fire place, fully equipped kitchen, big terrace with BBQ. It's located in a quiet area and has parking space in front. Within walking distance there are restaurants, cofee shops, supermarket, an ATM, surf shops and surf spots.

Apartment Wooden House

Sited 300 metres away from the beach, it's a good option for a group of 4 friends or a small family. The area is very quiet and this lodge features two rooms with two single beds each. The living room has TV/DVD and the balcony has sea sunset view. There is one toilet with bath room and a fully equipped kitchen. This lodge is located 5min walking to the beach and there is parking in front.

Apartment Cocktail House

Located about 1 km away from the beach, this facility is only available during peak season, from July to late September. This lodge is very comfortable and is ideal for a large family, couples, or clients wanting accommodation of higher quality. The house has two storeys, with a double and a single room upstairs, plus a bathroom and a large terrace overlooking the sea. Downstairs, there are two bedrooms, a double room and a second double room with an extra bed, plus a bathroom, lounge and common kitchen, and a terrace overlooking the sea. Guests can avail of bicycles. This facility lodges 7 guests.

Village Apartment 2

The Village Apartment 2 is available year round. It consists of a two bed room apartment located about 6min walking distance to the beach and our surf centre and school. The lodge features two bed rooms with built in closets, one room has two large single beds the other room one large bunk and an extra bed sleeping up to 3.

There's a sleeping couch on the living room should a group book it and needs the extra bed. The apartment has a fully equipped kitchen, large living room with TV and DVD, one toilet with shower and a balcony.

Luxury

These lodges are part of a golf resort of international standard. They are located within a 15-minute drive from our base at Baleal. There are various types of lodges available featuring 1-bedroom to 3-bedroom apartments and semi detached villas, or 4-bedroom villas with swimming pool. All the lodges available have fully equipped kitchens, central heating, cable TV and DVD. The apartments and semi detached villas have access to swimming pool. Staying in these lodges gives access to optional extras available only for guests staying within this resort such as; continental breakfast at the resort's club house or buffet at the 5 star hotel, lunch or dinner option, tennis court, football field or access to the Fitness Centre of Praia d'EL Rey Marriott Hotel. The minimum stay in the apartments and semi detached villas is 2 nights and the villas 3 nights. From the 13th of July to 31st of August and special seasons (Easter, New Year) the minimum stay is 4 nights (Apartments and semi detached villas) and 7 nights the villas. Quotes for this lodging option are on demand. It is required a deposit of 250EUR and check in is available from 16h onwards.

It was the first surf camp to be established in Portugal back in 1993 and by focusing on customer service and the environment it has grown to become one of the best known and best loved surf schools on the Atlantic.
