The Location

Aura Surf is an exclusive surfing resort situated on a large unexplored island in Northern Sumatra. No crowds and ease of access make this one of the most attractive surf destinations in the world.

Set amongst 15,000sqm of beachfront parkland with a epic peak break right out the front. Mountains jungle as the backdrop. Hundreds of untouched beaches, stunning remote outer islands, over 10 secret spots in the vicinity ranging from easy beach breaks to 15ft grinding barrels with no crowds. This pristine location offers interest to every tropical surf traveler.

Accommodations

Aura Surf Resort encompasses 3 traditional bungalows and main building constructed of local hardwood and woven bamboo with thatched palm roofing, able to house 14 surfers at any one time. The resort is fully equipped with many modern luxuries including bar, dining areas, tv, dvd, and plenty of outdoor chill areas. The bungalows are elevated meters above a pristine 3km white sandy beach.

In addition, Aura resort has a speed boat that allows you to explore all of the hidden breaks that the 150km coast line of the island has to offer. They also have 2 traditional wooden outriggers equipped with brand new 25hp Yamaha motors.

Each bungalow contains 2 rooms. Two bungalows can sleep up to 4 guests each, with twin shared single bedrooms on either side. Our largest bungalow can sleep up to 6 guests with 3 single beds on each side. Each bed comes with a mosquito net and is very comfortable. The rooms can be separated by a lockable door or opened for bigger groups and families. For couples, we offer a queen size bed for your room. When we book our guests into Aura, we sell the beds in the rooms individually. If you are a solo traveler, you will be given a single bed in a twin-share bungalow room. If in the event we have reached capacity, you may share a room with another guest. We will keep you well informed if this is the case. Western style bathroom facilities are attached to the rear of the bungalows. Each room contains electricity points and fans. There is a spacious verandah with relaxing chairs and coffee table so you can watch your friends getting barreled from the comfort of your bungalow.

THE SURF

The Peak

The Peak is situated directly out the front of Aura Surf Resort. This wave holds from 2 to 10 ft+, barrels at takeoff and down the line. Up to 80m rides in both directions. Easy paddle out from beach. Swell magnet. Suitable for all levels.

K-Hole / Teabags

K-Hole is located approximately 15 mins out the front by speed boat, offers a world class 150m long heavy right hander which barrels the whole way. Swell magnet, 4 to 15ft+. This wave is suitable for intermediate surfers and the more experienced.

Dylans

Dylans has a fast perfect right hand barrel and works with solid swells. 20 mins travel from Aura Surf Resort. Booties are recommended. 1 to 5ft, suitable for intermediate+.

Secret Island

The Secret Island is approximately 1 hrs travel from Aura Surf Resort. This wave offers world class heaving righthand barrels. When smaller, the wave has 3 take off zones, varying in difficulty. The wave is approximately 100m long. All sections have barrels. Swell magnet, breaks from 2ft to 8ft+. Intermediate.

GETTING THERE

Getting to Aura Surf Resort is easier than almost all other surf resorts in Indonesia! Flights are booked to Medan in Indonesia (the easiest way is to go via Singapore or Kuala Lumpur ). Please be aware you are required to pay an approximate $26, 30 day visa fee on arrival in Indonesia. Once you arrive in Medan you will be greeted by one of our representatives who will provide you with your airline tickets for your 1 hr flight to the island. Depending on what time your flight arrives in Medan, you can either fly to Aura surf Resort on the same day, or it may be necessary to stay overnight in Medan- in which case we can recommend excellent, clean and affordable places to stay. Once on our island you will be greeted by one of our staff who will transport you and your boards to our resort. This is a short 15 minute drive on newly sealed roads through small villages and past beautiful beaches. We have a world class peak right out the front of our Resort. You can be surfing the same day!

RATES AND BOOKINGS

Overnight rates for your twin share bungalow accommodation are:

• LOW SEASON ( October – February ) $114 per person per night
• PEAK SEASON ( March – September ) $168 per person per night

We have a 5 night minimum policy. Included in this fee is transfers by our staff from local airport to Aura Surf Resort, breakfast, lunch and dinner prepared by our chef ( a delicious combination of traditional and western flavors ), unlimited purified water and fresh fruit. Our surf guides will be more than happy to take you around the island to our favorite breaks.

Flights are extra and are approximately $78 per person each way and $125 per board bag each way. This extra amount is to be paid upon booking so we can book and pay for your internal flights from Medan to the island.

Other Activities

We are fortunate to have world class coral reefs close by that offer amazing snorkeling and fishing. If you are a passionate fisherman or snorkeler we suggest you bring your own gear. We can take you on day trips to one of the most beautiful islands we have ever seen. There are swimming holes with incredible waterfalls and rainforest nearby. You can hire a motorbike with board racks and explore the island yourself. Head into town and choose from a number of internet cafes and wi-fi spots. Relaxing walks through rice fields and fresh clean rivers. For those looking for a bit of competitive excitement, we have an awesome 9 hole putt putt golf course, table tennis and a number of board and card games. There are plenty of things to see and do.
